What it is

Even is a lightweight, fragrance-free brightening serum designed to fade dark spots and even out skin tone. Rather than relying on a single ingredient, it combines several complementary brighteners — alpha-arbutin, azelaic acid, tranexamic acid, kojic acid and diglucosyl gallic acid — that each act on a different step in the skin's pigment-production pathway. This multi-target approach is a sensible strategy for stubborn or uneven pigmentation.

It is particularly well suited to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (marks left by spots or irritation), melasma and general uneven tone or sun-related dark patches. Being fragrance-free, it is a good choice for sensitive or reactive skin. It also includes anti-ageing support (oligopeptide-68, acetyl glucosamine) for texture and fine lines.

What it does

Fades pigment: Alpha-arbutin, kojic acid, azelaic acid and tranexamic acid each reduce excess melanin production, targeting dark spots and uneven tone from multiple angles.
Calms: Azelaic acid also calms redness and inflammation, helping prevent new marks from forming — useful in acne- and rosacea-prone skin.
Supports skin quality: Oligopeptide-68 and acetyl glucosamine support collagen and hydration for smoother texture and softer fine lines.
Realistic timeline: Pigmentation is slow to shift — expect gradual, cumulative improvement over 8–12 weeks of consistent nightly use, and longer for melasma.

How to use

When: Use at night only, on clean, dry skin. Gently massage over the face and neck until absorbed.
Spot treatment: As well as all-over use, it can be applied as a targeted spot treatment — dab a small amount directly onto individual dark spots, patches of pigmentation, or marks left by spots, once or twice daily as tolerated.
Daily SPF is essential: Because these actives increase sensitivity and pigment can darken with UV, a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ must be worn and reapplied every morning. Without daily sun protection, brightening results will be undone.
Introduce slowly: Introduce gradually (every other night at first) if your skin is sensitive, then build to nightly as tolerated.
Avoid over-stacking: Avoid layering with other strong actives (e.g. a separate retinol or acids) on the same night unless advised, to reduce irritation risk.

What each ingredient does

Ingredients are listed on the pack in order of concentration (highest first) down to about 1%; below that they can appear in any order. Some grouped rows below combine related ingredients for readability. Notably, several active brighteners (alpha-arbutin, azelaic, tranexamic, kojic) sit relatively high on the list — a good sign that this is a genuine multi-active brightening formula rather than a token inclusion.

Ingredient

Role

What it does

Aqua (Water)

Base / solvent

The base that carries and dissolves the other ingredients.

Butylene Glycol / Propanediol / Glycerin

Humectants / solvents

Hydrate the skin and help the active brighteners dissolve and penetrate. High on the list, so present in meaningful amounts.

C15-19 Alkane

Emollient

A lightweight plant-derived oil that gives smooth, non-greasy slip.

Alpha-Arbutin

Active — brightener

A gentle, well-tolerated tyrosinase inhibitor that reduces excess pigment. Good evidence for fading dark spots without the irritation of hydroquinone.

Azelaic Acid

Active — brightener / anti-inflammatory

Reduces pigment and calms redness; useful for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, rosacea and acne-related marks. Strong evidence base.

Tranexamic Acid

Active — brightener

Targets stubborn pigment and melasma by interrupting the melanin pathway. Emerging but promising evidence, especially for melasma.

Kojic Acid

Active — brightener

Another tyrosinase inhibitor that lightens pigment. Effective but can be sensitising in some people.

Coco-Caprylate/Caprate

Emollient

A light, dry-feel oil for a smooth, non-greasy finish.

Acetyl Glucosamine

Brightener / hydration

Supports the brightening actives (interferes with melanin production) and boosts hyaluronic acid in skin.

Diglucosyl Gallic Acid

Active — brightener

A newer brightening/antioxidant ingredient that targets uneven tone.

Oligopeptide-68

Active — peptide brightener

A signal peptide marketed to reduce pigment and support even tone. Evidence emerging.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Antioxidant

Protects the formula and adds antioxidant benefit to the skin.

Sunflower & Soybean Oils (Helianthus / Glycine Soja)

Emollients / antioxidants

Light conditioning oils rich in antioxidants and fatty acids.

Lecithin / Hydrogenated Lecithin / Phospholipids

Delivery / barrier lipids

Help carry actives into the skin and support the barrier.

Pullulan / Xanthan Gum / Sclerotium Gum / Silica / Sodium Acrylates Copolymer

Texture / thickeners

Give the lotion its light, smooth body and keep it stable.

Sodium Gluconate / Disodium EDTA

Chelators

Bind trace metals to keep the formula stable and effective.

Sodium Oleate

Emulsifier / surfactant

Helps blend the oil and water phases.

Phenoxyethanol / Benzoic Acid / Dehydroacetic Acid

Preservatives

The preservative system that keeps the product safe and fresh in use.

Good to know

Sun protection: Daily SPF 50+ is non-negotiable with any pigment treatment. UV drives melanin production, so sun exposure will counteract the serum and can worsen melasma.
Watch for irritation: Multiple brighteners in one formula are effective but can occasionally irritate. If you get persistent stinging, redness or peeling, reduce frequency rather than stopping outright.
Fragrance-free: This serum is fragrance-free, making it a strong option for sensitive or reactive skin and skin of colour, which is more prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Safety: For external use only. Avoid the eyes; rinse with water if contact occurs. Discontinue if irritation occurs. Store below 40°C, away from direct sunlight. Best used within 6 months of opening.
